The Industrial Hygienist 3 position at the Minnesota Department of Corrections focuses on preventing occupational illnesses by applying industrial hygiene principles and enforcing safety and health standards. This role involves conducting compliance inspections, writing detailed reports, and providing recommendations to ensure safe working environments across various correctional facilities in Minnesota. The position offers a hybrid work environment, combining telework with fieldwork, and requires travel to multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct compliance inspections for scheduled and unscheduled visits, serious injuries, fatalities, and catastrophes to identify and document violations and hazards.
  • Write field investigation reports detailing the nature, scope, findings, and recommendations for correcting potential hazards.
  • Review compliance inspection health files to ensure proper documentation and adherence to policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Eighteen months of occupational safety and health experience involving industrial hygiene sampling and the application of safety and health standards.
  • Certification as an Industrial Hygienist 3.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Master's Degree in relevant fields can substitute for 18 months of experience; Bachelor's Degree can substitute for 1 year of experience.
  • Strong communication skills for writing technical reports and public communication.
  • Math skills for calculating sampling times, volumes, concentrations, and averages.
  • Ability to use personal protective and testing equipment.
  • Ability to work in various environments and transport up to 20 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing and implementing environmental compliance programs.
