About the position

The OpEx Intern position at Smith+Nephew is designed for top-performing undergraduate students studying Industrial Engineering or related fields. This internship aims to provide practical experience in the medical device industry while contributing to projects that enhance operational efficiency. Interns will work closely with managers on specific projects, present findings to senior leadership, and engage in team-building activities.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with managers to complete specifically identified Intern projects.
• Present project conclusion to senior leadership.
• Identify areas of opportunity for Cycle Time reduction and optimization of resources (operators and machines) to increase efficiency.
• Relay out proposal for specific area being worked on as balancing of workload is established.
• Establish and update standard times for current products.
• Update routing in SAP in coordination with Manufacturing Engineers.
• Build standard work and work instruction for operators to follow.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled at an accredited university as an undergraduate majoring in Industrial or similar field.
• Must be academically considered a sophomore.
• Must be in excellent academic standing, with a 3.0 or higher.
• Proven leadership experience with effective project management experience preferred.
• Strong communication skills including technical writing, listening, and speaking; ability to influence others.
• High learning agility with the ability to analyze and synthesize data to present to senior leaders.
• Ability to communicate with multi-functional teams and drive project completion.
• Ability to assess technical issues and develop solutions using an analytical approach to problem solving.
• Skilled with Microsoft Excel, knowledge of Power BI is a plus.
• Independent thinking and the ability to work within a team is required.
• Requires the ability to manage tight deadlines, multiple tasks, assignment changes, periodic heavy workload, constantly evolving technology, and dynamic business growth; time management and organization skills are a must.
