About the position

The Industrial Manufacturing Manager at Saint-Gobain plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing processes within the organization. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager and collaborating closely with the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for the design, development, specification, installation, repair, and modification of facilities, equipment, and machinery. The primary goal is to increase production, improve quality, and reduce costs through innovative engineering solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of engineering principles, theories, and concepts, which will be applied to improve processes, products, and equipment at the company's facilities. The Industrial Manufacturing Manager will engage with both internal resources and external vendors and contractors to achieve project objectives. Given the diverse nature of the projects, a broad knowledge of various engineering disciplines is essential, including civil/structural, electrical/controls/instrumentation, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. The manager will work independently and under the guidance of other staff members, ensuring that all engineering projects align with the company's strategic goals. In addition to plant support, the manager will oversee capital projects, serving as the Project Manager for smaller initiatives and coordinating efforts for larger capital projects. This includes directing and supporting the evaluation of new technologies, providing technical direction to teams, and collaborating with external engineering firms to design and construct equipment and processes. The role also involves ideation, where the manager will work with senior engineers to develop alternatives and options for project and product development, continuously challenging the status quo to foster innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Modify and/or redesign existing plant machinery or process equipment to meet operational needs.
  • Provide support to continuous improvement initiatives throughout the plant.
  • Provide technical direction to other teams.
  • Direct and support the evaluation of new technologies.
  • Use engineering knowledge to analyze issues and develop solutions.
  • Serve as Project Manager on smaller capital projects.
  • Direct and coordinate external and internal manpower to install and commission projects.
  • Direct outside vendors and/or engineering companies to develop and implement solutions.
  • Design, specify, purchase, and install various production equipment including layouts and planning of production areas.
  • Collaborate with different teams to implement larger capital projects.
  • Work with external engineering firms to design and construct equipment and processes.
  • Collaborate with internal and contract personnel in the execution of projects.
  • Develop alternatives and options for further development of projects and products.
  • Create new ways of performing work and challenge the status quo.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required; Master's in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Ten (10) plus years of experience in Manufacturing involving project management, engineering, design, commissioning, and testing is required.
  • A minimum of four (4) years in a leadership role is required.
  • Ability to develop, create, justify, and implement engineering projects.
  • Management of Change experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical ability.
  • Project management experience.
  • Understanding of manufacturing control systems and process automation.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and/or projects.
  • Experience in PLC programming, mainly Allen Bradley, some Siemens preferred.
  • Experience with SCADA systems such as Factory Talk View and Ignition preferred.
  • Ability to read, understand, and modify electrical schematics.
