About the position

The Industrial Plumber position at Purdue University involves working in the Operations and Maintenance Department, focusing on the installation, maintenance, and repair of various plumbing systems. The role is available at two levels: Associate Industrial Plumber (SK1) and Industrial Plumber (SK2), with responsibilities increasing with experience and skill level. The position requires hands-on work with a variety of plumbing systems and equipment, under the guidance of more experienced plumbers.

Responsibilities

• Assist with and learn installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures for domestic water, heating, gas, and air and drainage systems.
• Disassemble units or piping, inspect, troubleshoot, replace, and repair regulators, steam traps, valves, gaskets, springs, and pipe sections.
• Perform cutting, bending, threading, flaring of pipe or tubing, welding, brazing, and soldering.
• Install elbows, couplings, gaskets, valves, etc.
• Anchor piping and test new equipment for proper operations.
• Repair piping systems, including hydronic, stills, boilers, heaters, radiators, dishwashers, autoclaves, steam cookers, instantaneous water heaters, and air compressors.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED
• Experience in Steam System Repair and Residential, Commercial or Municipal plumbing desired
• Strong mechanical aptitude with good oral and written communications
• Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 60 lbs. occasionally
• A valid US or Canadian driver's license
