About the position

CDM Smith is seeking an Industrial Project Manager to lead and manage consulting, design, and design-build Transmission and Substation projects. The Project Manager will be responsible for leading and managing substation projects from design to construction, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget compliance. You will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, and engineers to deliver a successful project. This position is part of our Industrial Division, which serves Oil & Gas, Chemical, Food & Beverage, Metals & Mining, Utility, Manufacturing, and electric utility clients. As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM's mission by managing multiple large complex engineering substation projects up to 500kV concurrently from early concept development through detailed design and construction. You will coordinate design and construction activities of new substations and upgrades to existing substations, following industry standards and best practices. Supervising and procuring equipment, materials, and services for substation projects will be essential, ensuring technical specifications and contractual requirements are met. As a mentor and leader of project teams, you will perform technical problem-solving and lead multi-discipline teams. You will also provide guidance and review at the project level while assuring discipline and quality standards are adhered to. Additionally, you will lead proposal teams and develop project approaches that lead to project wins, bringing experience and innovation to solve problems of high complexity in your area of expertise. Effectively working with lead practitioners, quality managers, and key technical specialists will be crucial, as will preparing and monitoring project budgets and schedules in conjunction with assisting in negotiation of contracts and amendments. Identifying opportunities with existing clients, particularly by expanding service offerings, will also be part of your responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 7 years of related experience.
  • PMP (PMI), CCM or DBIA certification is required (within 12 months of hire or promotion onto the Approved Project Manager list).
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Experience in leading and managing utility substation projects.
  • Proven experience managing preparation of engineering design packages for construction.
  • Experience managing project scope, schedule, and budgets.
