About the position

The Industrial Safety Engineer at BWX Technologies, Inc. plays a crucial role in ensuring safety and health compliance within the BWSR, LLC overhaul and construction operations. This position involves applying advanced industrial safety principles, conducting safety assessments, and providing technical support to management to mitigate safety hazards and enhance workplace safety. The engineer will be actively involved in project development, safety monitoring, and accident investigations, contributing to the overall safety culture of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate safety hazards through the application and development of advanced industrial safety techniques.
  • Monitor and evaluate how effectively line management implements safety requirements and programs.
  • Conduct self-assessments and safety observations.
  • Provide technical support to line management regarding implementation of safety requirements, principles, and concepts.
  • Assist in developing project/task-level procedures to ensure that applicable safety requirements are identified and integrated into the associated work documents.
  • Support the Safety and Health Manager as requested and provide safety leadership and consultation to coworkers.
  • Analyze data related to accidents and near misses. Assist management and employee safety team members with accident investigations and in determining root causes.
  • Assist with administration of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Monitor work activities to ensure employees are following the task work document and the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  • Perform other safety-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Engineering/science degree plus 1-3 years relevant experience with construction industry safety experience being a plus.
  • CSP or CIH certification is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize job duties and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate with employees, supervisors and customers.
  • Strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Previous experience in the nuclear or radiological field is desirable.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen - no dual citizenship.
  • Must obtain and maintain a DOE 'L' security clearance - current clearance a plus.
  • Must obtain and maintain appropriate radiological controls and other necessary qualifications.
