About the position

The Industrial Safety Engineer at BWX Technologies, Inc. plays a crucial role in ensuring safety and health compliance within the BWSR, LLC overhaul and construction operations. This position involves applying advanced industrial safety principles, conducting safety assessments, and providing technical support to management. The engineer will be responsible for identifying safety hazards, monitoring safety program effectiveness, and contributing to the development of safety procedures, all while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate safety hazards through advanced industrial safety techniques.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety requirements and programs implemented by line management.
  • Conduct self-assessments and safety observations.
  • Provide technical support to line management regarding safety requirements, principles, and concepts.
  • Assist in developing project/task-level procedures to integrate safety requirements into work documents.
  • Support the Safety and Health Manager and provide safety leadership and consultation to coworkers.
  • Analyze data related to accidents and near misses, assisting in investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Assist with the administration of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with task work documents and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
  • Perform other safety-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Engineering/science degree plus 1-3 years relevant experience, with construction industry safety experience preferred.
  • CSP or CIH certification is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize job duties and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Previous experience in the nuclear or radiological field is desirable.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen - no dual citizenship.
  • Must obtain and maintain a DOE 'L' security clearance - current clearance a plus.
  • Must obtain and maintain appropriate radiological controls and other necessary qualifications.
