About the position

The Industrial Safety Liaison for the Escambia County Public Works Department plays a crucial role in developing and updating safety and security policies and procedures. This position involves collaboration with various County departments to ensure compliance with safety regulations and to provide training and support to employees. The liaison serves as a key point of contact between management and employees, focusing on enhancing workplace safety and fostering strong working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an in-house safety advisor, teaching, training, instructing, documenting, and auditing internal departments as directed by the Risk Manager.
  • Perform initial investigations of employee injury claims and gather necessary information.
  • Investigate safety concerns raised by employees, management, and citizens.
  • Implement and engage employees in regular safety training sessions.
  • Assess and understand the needs of staff and departments regarding safety.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Board, public, and other departments, providing information on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records, files, and information to ensure compliance with safety regulations; audit files for accuracy.
  • Draft and compose various business documents, maintaining confidentiality on sensitive issues.
  • Organize and maintain inventory, supplies, and equipment; initiate service and repairs as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Occupational Safety and Health, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
  • Valid driver's license from state of residence.
  • Ability to become an OSHA certified trainer in General Industry (501) and Construction Industry (500) within one year.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project management principles.
  • Knowledge of specialized terminology, procedures, policies, and practices in safety principles and procedures.
  • Familiarity with applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes.
  • Proficiency in modern office procedures, methods, and equipment.
