The Industrial & Systems Engineer II - Modeling position is pivotal in supporting mid-to-large scale distribution center initiatives. The role emphasizes the collection and utilization of site-specific operational data to develop slotting plans, flow paths, and layouts that maximize operational efficiency within the facility, region, or network. The engineer will also support supply chain management and engineering projects across the distribution center network as needed, partnering with the extended DC support team to conduct operational and financial analyses. This position plays a crucial role in facility and system-wide capacity planning and facilitates program rollouts, including training teammates on new workflows and processes. The engineer will be responsible for creating and managing network strategies that lead to the development of internal modeling capabilities. This includes mid/long-range strategy building, market expansion, and rationalization, as well as engaging in strategic business partnerships and corporate-led transformation initiatives. The role requires maintaining slotting programs across multiple operations, developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures in alignment with the Corporate Engineering team, and reporting to senior operational and engineering leaders to gain alignment on implementation plans and success metrics. Additionally, the engineer will coordinate cross-team dependencies, troubleshoot technical issues, propose changes to operating procedures, and assess and optimize processes and equipment to support business needs. The position also involves performing ad hoc data analysis on key business functions and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Support mid-to-large scale distribution center initiatives by collecting and utilizing operational data.
  • Develop slotting plans, flow paths, and layouts to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Support supply chain management and engineering projects across the distribution center network.
  • Conduct operational and financial analysis in partnership with the extended DC support team.
  • Facilitate program rollouts and train teammates on new workflows and processes.

  • Propose and implement changes to operating procedures to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Partner with division operations to reinforce consistent process execution and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assess and optimize processes and equipment within the facility and region.
  • Implement and support McLane's warehouse slotting optimization systems.
  • Perform ad hoc data analysis on key business functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering preferred, or applicable degrees in Supply Chain Management and Operations Management with experience.
  • 4 or more years of experience as a regional or on-site industrial engineer required.
  • Experience with modern programming/scripting languages to create models.
  • Understanding of Data Analytical or ETL tools, Statistical Analysis, and Operations Research Simulation is a plus.
  • Understanding of distribution center operations including receiving, selection, replenishment, routing, and dispatch.
  • Hands-on experience with Manhattan WMS or JDA/Red Prairie WMS is a plus.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills with the ability to present recommendations to leadership.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced office and warehouse environment professionally.
  • Self-starter with the ability to communicate and interact with multiple cross-functional levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Data Analytical or ETL tools.
