About the position

The position involves installing and repairing electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, as well as the electrical and electronic components of machinery. The individual will build, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical instruments and testing equipment. Responsibilities include developing, writing, and conducting documented Preventative Maintenance procedures to TAMKO's standards, assembling electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data, and preparing charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow and machine handling. The role also requires visually inspecting and testing machinery, dismantling defective machines, and installing new or repaired equipment. Additionally, the technician will provide technical assistance during installation, track parts usage, maintain accurate work orders, and set up test equipment to evaluate performance under simulated conditions. The position demands the ability to analyze test information, modify prototypes, and evaluate engineering proposals for sound electrical practices. The technician will also prepare project costs, review existing electrical systems, and write commissioning procedures for electrical installations.

  • Builds, calibrates, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs electrical instruments and testing equipment.
  • Develops, writes and conducts documented Preventative Maintenance procedures to TAMKO's standard.
  • Assembles electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles, using hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Prepares charts, graphs and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling and machine operations.
  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new and repaired components.
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of equipment.
  • Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.
  • Provides technical assistance and resolution when electrical problems are encountered before, during and after installation.
  • Receives work requests and completes specified tasks.
  • Tracks parts usage and finds stored parts.
  • Maintains accurate work orders documentation of work conducted.
  • Sets up and operates test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies and systems under simulated operating conditions, and records results.
  • Inspects all tools on site for safety and fitness for use.
  • Records the punch list identifying emergency repairs needing immediate attention upon shutdown.
  • Inspects, repairs, and recommends corrective actions for equipment.
  • Uses manuals to troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, and repair equipment.
  • In emergency situations, locates supplier and orders parts using TAMKO purchasing procedures.
  • Analyzes and interprets test information to resolve design-related issues.
  • Modifies electrical prototypes, parts, assemblies and systems to correct functional issues.
  • Plans method and sequence of operations for developing and testing experimental electronic and electrical systems.
  • Evaluates engineering proposals, shop drawings and design comments for sound electrical engineering practice and conformance with established safety and design criteria, and recommends approval or disapproval.
  • Prepares project cost and work-time estimates.
  • Reviews existing plant electrical systems and provides necessary revisions, deletions and amendments to outdated material. Proposes new technology to replace outdated systems.
  • Prepares contracts and initiates, reviews and coordinates modifications to contract specifications and plans throughout the installation of equipment.
  • Reviews installation of equipment areas to observe conditions impacting design and to identify solutions to technical design problems involving electrical systems equipment that arise during installation.
  • Writes commissioning procedures for electrical installations.
  • Provides support to mechanical technicians when practical during repair tasks.
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Associate's degree in electrical/electromechanical technology preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to draft reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of design software, manufacturing software, spreadsheet software and word processing software.
