About the position

The Industrial Wastewater Technician is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and administration of the industrial pretreatment program for the City of Wildwood. This role involves technical work in monitoring and enforcing compliance with environmental regulations, as well as providing support and training to other staff members. The technician will also conduct investigations into environmental violations and ensure that all necessary data is accurately reported and maintained.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, evaluate, enforce, and oversee all aspects of the Industrial Pretreatment Program.
• Organize, maintain, and order necessary supplies for the IW program.
• Assist plant operators as needed, including on-call rotation for licensed operators.
• Train backup industrial wastewater technicians as needed.
• Monitor, evaluate, and enforce community compliance with environmental control regulations and ordinances.
• Conduct technical investigations of reported environmental violations, document results, and issue Notices of Violations if required.
• Input and update computer data to ensure compliance and reporting.
• Provide information to new businesses to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Sample multiple sites for COD and TSS for reporting purposes.

Requirements

• At least one year of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment plant operations.
• At least one year of experience working in industrial pretreatment programs.
• Thorough knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in an industrial pretreatment program.
• Extensive experience and working knowledge of wastewater collection systems and FDEP regulations.
• Computer literate and capable of using computer-based systems for communications and reporting.

Nice-to-haves

• Certified industrial pretreatment operator preferred.
• Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License is required.
• Must obtain a Class 'C' State of Florida Wastewater Operators License within two years from date of hire preferred.
