About the position

The Infant/Toddler Head Teacher II at the Greenpoint YMCA is responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants and toddlers. This role emphasizes the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of young children while ensuring their health and safety. The Head Teacher will also supervise and support Assistant Teachers and Activity Specialists, engage with parents, and maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
  • Plan developmentally appropriate and engaging lessons and activities.
  • Implement lessons and activities, including literacy, arts, math, cooking, science, and outdoor/indoor recreation.
  • Develop classroom centers that respond to children's interests and are coordinated with the ongoing curriculum.
  • Facilitate student assessments and work sampling.
  • Work with parents/guardians to promote understanding of their child's growth and development.
  • Encourage parent/guardian participation in special events and in-class volunteer opportunities.
  • Supervise Assistant Teachers, Early Childhood Specialists, and Volunteers as a supportive team member.
  • Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation, including incident reports, attendance sheets, and development forms.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA, Department of Health, and Department of Education guidelines.
  • Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions, and special events.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field) and State teacher certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field) and State teacher certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and one (1) year of experience.
  • AA degree in Early Childhood Education (practicum included) and five (5) years of experience.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certification and an approved DOH study plan leading to an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education within seven (7) years.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.
