About the position

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive infection prevention and control program at Hi-Desert Medical Center. This role involves developing and maintaining infection surveillance, prevention, and control strategies in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Infection Preventionist will analyze data related to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), conduct outbreak investigations, and collaborate with various departments to implement effective infection control measures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an infection surveillance, prevention, and control program based on organizational risk assessment.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze surveillance data using standardized methodology for HAIs.
  • Organize and maintain surveillance data and records.
  • Report surveillance data, findings, and analysis to appropriate committees and external agencies.
  • Monitor patients for communicable diseases, HAIs, and resistant organisms.
  • Monitor infectious diseases in the community via laboratory and public health reports.
  • Identify and evaluate clusters of infections and potential outbreaks.
  • Institute outbreak investigation and control measures as needed.
  • Recommend isolation precautions according to organization's policies.
  • Develop infection prevention and control policies in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Update policies and procedures to maintain compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Assist the organization in maintaining readiness for state and accrediting agency surveys.
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficacy of infection prevention strategies.
  • Collaborate with departments to design and implement strategies to prevent HAIs.
  • Investigate exposures to communicable diseases and initiate prevention measures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patients and personnel information.
  • Provide consultation services related to infection prevention to various departments.
  • Evaluate products and equipment related to infection prevention.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain departmental records in compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Provide written and verbal reports to administration and relevant committees.
  • Communicate with local and state health departments.
  • Participate in orientation and annual education programs.
  • Conduct in-service education on infection prevention strategies.
  • Develop or obtain educational material for personnel, patients, and visitors.
  • Collaborate with employee health personnel on exposure management and immunization.
  • Evaluate infection risks associated with renovation and construction projects.
  • Be an active member of the Infection Control Committee, Quality Council, and Value Analysis Team.

Requirements

  • Current CA RN license
  • Associate's Degree
  • Experience in Infection Control Preferred
  • Minimum 3 years clinical experience in Occupational Health
