About the position

The Info Tech Project Manager 14 position is responsible for overseeing and managing large, complex IT projects within the State of Michigan. This role involves leadership, accountability, and project management functions, ensuring adherence to the State's project management methodology (SUITE). The projects typically involve vendor participation, require integration with other systems, and have a duration of over six months with a team of 20 or more members. The position requires effective communication with agency leadership and the ability to manage risks and project quality control activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and leadership for large, complex IT projects.
  • Ensure consistency with the State of Michigan project management methodology (SUITE).
  • Perform long-term release planning based on organizational direction.
  • Regularly interact with project management teams regarding budget, quality, and schedule status.
  • Escalate issues and risks to executives as needed.
  • Exercise project quality control activities to meet project scope expectations.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 21 semester credits in relevant fields such as computer science, data processing, or project management.
  • Three years of professional experience equivalent to an IT project coordinator.
  • Possession of a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification may substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Possession of a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) certification may substitute for one year of the experience requirement.
  • Possession of SUITE Certification may substitute for two educational credits.
