About the position

The Applications Developer will play a crucial role in the Executive Office of Health and Human Services Enterprise Data Management & Engineering by providing analytical support for the development and implementation of complex systems. This position requires in-depth knowledge of client/server applications technology and involves responsibilities such as coding, debugging, testing, and documentation of computer programs. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving abilities and experience in programming graphical user interfaces, object-oriented programming, and cloud engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and translate business requirements into Data Warehouse solutions.
  • Create data models and designs to meet specific business needs that require sourcing data from multiple source systems.
  • Mentor other technical staff in cloud technologies at all levels of understanding.
  • Assist in identifying, planning, and migration of on-premises data solutions to the cloud.
  • Code Oracle, Snowflake or IICS ETL scripts to transform data from operational databases to various targets.
  • Document design using industry standards.
  • Monitor and optimize data processing and storage performance in cloud environments.
  • Provide query writing support and tuning expertise to analysts and end users.
  • Develop shell/Python scripts for production job automation.
  • Work in a 24x7 environment which requires on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in database development including analyzing, designing, documenting, coding, testing, and implementing primarily SQL code.
  • Thorough knowledge of Data Warehouse applications on AWS.
  • Exceptional Oracle/Snowflake SQL skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Cloud architectures.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Informatica IICS.
  • Understanding of version control and use of GitHub.
  • Experience working with a large, multi-terabyte data warehouse.
  • BS in Computer Science or related degree, or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Medicaid or other healthcare or claims processing experience.
  • Experience working with Airflow.
  • Experienced in Oracle SQL skills and PL/SQL skills.
  • Experience with Perl, system administration, database administration, storage architectures, backup & recovery, and networking.
