About the position

The Informatics Specialist - Pharmacy Automation at the University of Iowa Health Care is responsible for optimizing and implementing automation systems related to pharmacy workflows. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including project management groups, vendors, and end-users, to enhance automated medication-use systems and ensure efficient pharmacy operations across all UI Healthcare locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide workflow analysis and optimization for pharmacy automation systems.
  • Serve as a liaison among leaders, end-users, and IT project managers to ensure customer support and satisfaction.
  • Identify and prioritize areas of need in collaboration with pharmacy staff.
  • Translate clinical and technical requirements into system design and workflow customization.
  • Develop and test system changes for usability and performance.
  • Provide education and support to pharmacy staff and other clinicians regarding automation systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare trends and regulations related to pharmacy informatics.
  • Mentor staff, residents, and student employees in the area of pharmacy automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in application development/support.
  • Iowa Board of Pharmacy registration required before employment.
  • Completion of pharmacy technician certification exam within 12 months of employment.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a complex healthcare environment, preferably in a large academic medical center.
  • 1-3 years of recent pharmacy technician experience within the last 5 years.
  • Experience initiating projects or changes in a healthcare environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong focus on customer service and ability to work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pharmacy technician experience at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
  • Experience authoring training materials or leading training sessions.
  • Experience using or supporting pharmacy automation systems.
  • Experience working with medication and healthcare-related data.
  • Experience translating customer requirements into system design specifications.
