About the position

The Information Center Attendant I position at the Springfield Welcome Center is a part-time role focused on providing exceptional customer service and information to visitors. The attendant will represent the State of New Hampshire's Department of Business and Economic Affairs, promoting local attractions and assisting travelers. The role requires flexibility in scheduling, as the center operates seven days a week, and involves various responsibilities including custodial duties and maintaining visitor information resources.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional customer service and information to visitors about New Hampshire area attractions.
  • Direct visitors to services using brochures, websites, and other resources.
  • Assist travelers in highway and personal emergencies as needed.
  • Perform general interior and exterior grounds upkeep, including custodial duties and snow removal.
  • Maintain inventory of janitorial supplies and travel literature, alerting the supervisor when supplies are low.
  • Assist the marketing team by communicating and promoting the State's campaign throughout the Welcome and Information Centers.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of traveler information by attending seminars and training as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of 8th grade or its equivalent.
  • Must enjoy working with the public and meeting new people.
  • Possess great communication skills and maintain composure during stressful times.
  • Ability to physically stand for long periods, negotiate stairs, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be available to work various schedules as business needs require.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of customer service principles and processes.
  • Knowledge of methods to promote and sell products or services.
  • Ability to perform routine clerical tasks and simple arithmetic computations.
