About the position

The Information Governance Advisor I at USAA plays a crucial role in ensuring that the Enterprise Risk and Compliance data adheres to established data governance standards and procedures. This mid-level position focuses on report governance and involves working collaboratively with a team to enhance data quality, integrity, and compliance across various business lines. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and resolving data governance issues while supporting the organization's mission to facilitate financial security for military members and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize key information and research to recommend information governance initiatives that deliver business value across a single data domain.
  • Conduct assessments of information governance processes and tools, proposing recommendations for improvements.
  • Partner with internal groups and vendors to maintain accurate metadata information and produce required reports.
  • Anticipate, analyze, and resolve problems and issues, making recommendations to appropriate leadership levels.
  • Acquire and apply knowledge of various business lines, data domains, and their applications across information governance standards.
  • Implement information governance and data management practices and processes independently and collaboratively.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled according to policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Architecture, Information Management, Information Studies, Information Technology, Risk, Audit, or a related field; OR 4 years of related experience may substitute for the degree.
  • 4 years of experience in information or data-related practices, including information governance, risk, audit, and analysis.
  • 1 year of experience analyzing data governance issues and delivering data management solutions, including documenting business workflows.
  • Extensive experience in data quality metrics, business rules, and dashboards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Information Governance Catalogue and/or Alation.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience in the development of metadata.
  • US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
