About the position

The Information Management Professional I position at the Institute for Defense Analyses involves assisting with various library functions and reference services. The role supports IDA researchers and task groups by providing information retrieval, document acquisition, cataloging, and collection development. The incumbent will engage in literature searches, maintain information sources, and assist in documenting library transactions, contributing to the overall mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Assist with information and reference retrieval as requested, including participation in research tasks.
• Prepare straightforward summaries and abstracts of source material.
• Conduct literature searches and assist in the development and maintenance of information sources and contacts.
• Participate in the development and maintenance of collections, determining items for purchase and removing outdated items.
• Document reference transactions in the Library usage database.
• Assist Library support staff by providing necessary data for cataloging or describing items.
• Prepare billing records for purchases and transactions made for researchers.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Library Science or related academic discipline, or a high school diploma with 3 years of information services experience.
• One or more years' experience in an information services environment, preferably in scientific, technical, or military disciplines.
• Experience with database platforms and building structured search strings.
• Familiarity with online databases common to library reference work and information provision.
• Effective communication skills in personal and written interactions with all levels of employees.
• Experience with Ex Libris Alma and Primo systems is desired.
• Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearance.
