About the position

The Information Security Analyst at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is responsible for enhancing the security posture of the Institute through various activities including network monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, and compliance-related work. The role involves utilizing multiple technologies to detect and respond to security incidents, as well as recommending appropriate controls to mitigate threats and vulnerabilities for the MIT community.

Responsibilities

• Improve the security posture of the Institute through network monitoring and incident response.
• Manage vulnerability assessments and security awareness initiatives.
• Conduct compliance-related work to ensure adherence to security policies.
• Utilize various technologies to detect and respond to security incidents.
• Recommend appropriate security controls to mitigate threats and vulnerabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Five years of experience in cybersecurity or a related field.
• At least three years of information security experience.
• Broad understanding of networking, security, and system administration concepts.
• Experience with security tools such as vulnerability scanners, endpoint detection and response, IDS, and SIEM.
• Working knowledge of security best practices, threats, exploits, and trends across platforms.
• Understanding of common log types and networking concepts.
• Familiarity with common phishing techniques and experience analyzing email headers.
• Strong analytical and communication skills for troubleshooting and problem-solving.

Nice-to-haves

• Related security certification (e.g., CISSP).
• Proficiency with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ruby, PERL).
• Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).

Benefits

• Starting salary range: $115,000 - 125,000.
• Hybrid position with onsite presence required 2 - 3 times per year.
