About the position

The Information Security Systems Engineer (ISSE) will join a specialized team focused on providing Information Assurance (IA) Architecture Analysis and Security Engineering Support for critical national security systems. This role involves consulting on technical security assessments, system security design, and the implementation of security measures to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with established standards. The ISSE will work closely with architects and developers to integrate security into operational environments and support the overall security planning and risk management activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or review technical security assessments of computing environments to identify vulnerabilities and compliance issues.
  • Validate and verify system security requirements and establish system security design.
  • Design, develop, implement, and integrate IA and security systems for various environments.
  • Build IA into systems deployed in operational environments.
  • Assist architects and developers in implementing appropriate information security functionality.
  • Support the development of security architectures and enforce trusted relations among external systems.
  • Assess and mitigate system security threats and risks throughout the program life cycle.
  • Contribute to security planning, assessment, risk analysis, and certification activities.
  • Review C&A documentation for completeness and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience as an Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) or Network Engineer.
  • CISSP or CASP certification required.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to present briefings to senior DoD officials.
  • Expertise in network technology and systems security engineering.
  • Experience in identifying and documenting security weaknesses in various systems.
  • Knowledge of NIST Special Publications 800 Series, CNSSI 1253, and DoD 8500.
  • Hands-on experience with security and network components such as routers, firewalls, IPS, IDS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing and documenting system security requirements and conducting gap analysis.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and communication systems.
