About the position

The Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) position at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) involves coordinating, implementing, and enforcing cybersecurity policies and programs across the agency. The role requires maintaining a comprehensive information security and risk management program, advising senior management on cybersecurity systems, and conducting risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential security risks. The ISSE will work within the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and contribute to the development and integration of security measures throughout the information system development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop long-range plans for IT security systems and review new systems for potential security risks.
  • Advise senior management on cybersecurity systems and processes to meet user requirements.
  • Maintain an inventory of hardware and software within program offices.
  • Lead and coordinate the implementation of security programs across platforms.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for identified risks.
  • Support the assessment and authorization process to ensure compliance with FISMA and DHS security requirements.
  • Develop documentation including risk and security assessment reports and security impact analysis.
  • Design and validate strategies for simulated attacks on networks and systems.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity professionals to assess risk and implement necessary controls.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or national.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be registered for the Selective Service (if male).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to submit to a drug test and receive a negative result.
  • Must comply with ethics and standards of conduct requirements.
