About the position

The Information Systems Analyst at Arkansas State University is a pivotal role responsible for coordinating and directing telecommunications systems and staff within the Dean of Education-Behavioral Sciences department. This position is governed by state and federal laws, as well as institutional policies, ensuring compliance and effective management of technology resources. The analyst will maintain and support over 650 faculty, staff, and departmental computers across seven campus buildings and throughout the state, providing assistance in person, via phone, or through remote desktop software. The role involves troubleshooting a wide range of operating system issues, from simple problems like a computer not turning on to more complex issues such as unexpected shutdowns, freezes, or audio/video malfunctions. The analyst will determine whether issues are hardware or software-related, resolve software problems, and coordinate hardware warranty repairs with Dell. Additionally, the analyst will install and support various software programs, ensuring they are updated and configured for optimal usability. The analyst will also perform file recovery on machines that have failed, troubleshoot network connectivity issues, and research recommendations for desktops, laptops, tablets, and peripheral devices needed by faculty, staff, and student labs. Maintaining a hardware inventory is crucial for assessing user needs and making recommendations for technology fund rotation. The analyst will prepare quotes for ordering equipment and set up new computers for users, ensuring they are joined to the correct domain and configured to meet specific needs. Furthermore, the analyst will maintain and support six student lab areas with a total of 117 computers, including those with dual operating systems, and provide support for instructor computers and projectors in classrooms and conference rooms. The role requires collaboration with users to analyze their technology needs and suggest effective solutions, including accommodating users with special requirements. The analyst will manage four servers for various functions, administer WaterMark Evaluation Software, and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support over 650 faculty, staff, and departmental computers in 7 campus buildings and throughout the state.
  • Provide support for operating system issues, determining if they are hardware or software related and resolving them accordingly.
  • Install and support a variety of software programs, ensuring they are updated and configured for optimal usability.
  • Perform file recovery on machines that have failed to avoid loss of user data.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues to determine the cause and correct it.
  • Research and make recommendations for desktops, laptops, tablets, peripheral devices, and software needed by faculty and staff.
  • Maintain hardware inventory to assess user needs and make recommendations for technology fund rotation.
  • Prepare quotes to order equipment and set up new computers for users, ensuring proper configuration and file transfer.
  • Maintain and support 6 student lab areas with a total of 117 computers, including those with dual operating systems.
  • Support instructor computers, projectors, and other devices for classrooms and conference rooms.
  • Work with users to provide optimum technology resources by analyzing needs and suggesting effective solutions.
  • Investigate and assess technology to enhance user productivity and determine implementation strategies.
  • Manage four servers for various functions, including printing and hosting websites.
  • Administer WaterMark Evaluation Software and assist with web-page development and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in telecommunications or a related area, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for basic requirements upon approval.
