About the position

The Information Systems Risk Specialist at Shelter Insurance is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls for information systems and operations. This role involves conducting independent reviews, participating in application development to ensure security, testing information systems for vulnerabilities, and performing audits to identify deviations and fraud. The specialist will also design audit programs and communicate findings to senior management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent, objective reviews to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls for existing information systems and IS operations.
  • Participate in groups assuring internal controls and security are considered in new application development.
  • Test all aspects of information systems security, reliability, and integrity to identify weaknesses and recommend best practices.
  • Perform audits in non-IS areas requiring data analysis to identify business practice deviations and to detect fraud.
  • Design basic information systems audit programs and the IS components of business department audit programs.

Requirements

  • Strong background in information systems, including knowledge of TCP/IP and web technology, client/server technology platforms (Windows, Linux), and application controls.
  • Degree in computer science, MIS, or related field, or an IS concentration certificate, CISA or CISSP designation, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong analytical skills to perform complex analysis in an information systems environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to prepare clear, objective audit reports and communicate findings to senior management.
  • Ability to exercise maturity, good judgment, and organization to complete complex audit projects independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with various persons throughout the company in performing audits and resolving issues.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidence in handling sensitive information and investigating sensitive matters.
  • Valid driver's license required for periodic travel.
