About the position

The Senior Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) will provide critical Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) support for the NSWCDD Corporate Information Systems. This role involves preparing and updating essential security documentation, maintaining accreditation records, and ensuring compliance with information assurance standards. The ISSE will also communicate security policies and procedures across various departments and manage the certification and accreditation processes for both classified and unclassified IT systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and update drafts for the Disaster Recovery Plan, Safety Manual, Emergency Action Plan (EAP), and Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Review, validate, and maintain Certification and Accreditation (C&A) documentation and accreditation records for NSWCDD RDT&E classified and unclassified IT and network systems.
  • Maintain IPA records and equipment inventories, input C&A validation reports, and draft security-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Make network security policy recommendations to the Information Assurance Officer (IAO) and Network Security Officer (NSO) and communicate approved policies to department IAOs across NSWCDD.
  • Recommend and develop draft Information Assurance (IA) and system security procedures and practices in accordance with NSWCDD Information Assurance and Compliance Office standards.
  • Prepare and update certification and accreditation documentation for new Government information systems on unclassified and classified networks.
  • Communicate with program managers on A&A statuses, review and execute Interim Authority to Test (IATT) reviews, and manage firewall modifications on A&A packages.
  • Ensure RMF packages are updated and accredited during the regular three-year Authority to Operate (ATO) cycles.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Information Systems Security Engineering or related field.
  • Active DoD Clearance (Secret, Top Secret, or Top Secret/SCI) or the ability to obtain an Interim Secret or Interim Top Secret clearance.
  • Strong understanding of Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Certification and Accreditation (C&A) processes.
  • Experience in preparing security documentation and maintaining compliance with information assurance standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with network security policy development and implementation.
  • Familiarity with government information systems and their security requirements.
