About the position

The Information Systems Specialist I - Network Support role at the Illinois Secretary of State involves planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating technical hardware and software functions for networks. The position focuses on the installation, modification, evaluation, and review of hardware and software functions for both local and wide area networks, ensuring compliance with agency standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex technical duties in the installation and maintenance of data communications hardware and software.
• Assist in the design, support, and maintenance of network systems and architecture.
• Ensure network systems adhere to Agency standards.
• Perform complex testing procedures to isolate data communications transmission failures.
• Assist Technical Support Group in solving difficult/technical protocol and data transmission problems.
• Review and evaluate all communications circuits to ensure compliance with Agency standards.
• Receive inquiries from User Support regarding system, LAN, or terminal problems and take corrective action.
• Transport computer equipment to vendors for repairs when necessary.
• Travel for education, meetings, and site surveys for new terminal installations or relocations.
• Communicate effectively with Property Control and Equipment Control Officer regarding installations and removals.

Requirements

• Knowledge equivalent to the completion of two years of college with coursework in the computer science field or 2.5 years of technical systems and/or programming experience.
• Working knowledge of systems design and implementation.
• Ability to organize facts and findings, analyze data logically, and present results clearly.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing and solving problems.
• Willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver's license.
• Ability to lift, carry, and push/pull 50 lbs.
