About the position

The Information Technology Auditor position involves working within the Legislative Audit Division of the State of Montana to enhance information security and technology operations in state government. The role focuses on conducting audits to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of IT systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and identifying potential risks in state computer systems. Auditors will engage in various tasks including data analysis, risk assessment, and making recommendations to state agencies, while also documenting their findings and presenting results to relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing the risks to various state programs and systems and evaluating the controls in place to mitigate those risks
  • Conducting individual and group interviews with state agencies
  • Analyzing agency technology policies and practices
  • Extracting and examining database information
  • Evaluating information technology controls
  • Conducting automated systems testing
  • Analyzing compliance with associated laws, rules, policies, industry standards, and relevant best practices
  • Documenting analysis and findings in audit workpapers
  • Composing summaries and conclusions for audit work
  • Writing reports and presenting results to agency personnel and legislative committees
  • Actively pursuing certifications and continuing professional education in line with the division's needs and personal career development.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of relevant experience for Associate level
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience for Senior level
  • Direct work experience as an information security analyst, information systems/technology auditor, or equivalent position for Senior level
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, public administration, mathematics, business, management, or related field, or a relevant two-year technical degree in a discipline related to information technology
  • Relevant combinations of education and/or experience will be considered
  • Course work and/or relevant work experience in information systems auditing, analysis of IT control frameworks, use of data analysis software, quantitative analysis, management and development of information systems, and information security are preferred.
