About the position

The Database Analyst position within the Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS) in Honolulu, HI, involves performing a full range of database administration and analysis work. This role is critical for designing, implementing, and maintaining database applications, ensuring data integrity, and optimizing database performance. The position offers two levels: Journeyworker and Senior Specialist/Subject Matter Expert, each with increasing responsibilities and complexity in tasks related to database management.

Responsibilities

• Design database applications according to specifications provided by higher-level staff.
• Test, correct, monitor, and update developed applications.
• Evaluate database performance and tune databases as needed.
• Set up backup and recovery procedures for databases.
• Control access to data in physical database designs for privacy and security.
• Redesign databases as business needs change (Senior level).
• Code, test, and execute physical databases from logical designs (Senior level).
• Recommend implementation strategies for new database management systems (Senior level).
• Serve as a project or team leader for complex projects (Senior level).
• Provide expert advisory and consultative guidance in database management.

Requirements

• Experience in database administration and analysis.
• Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, policies, regulations, and procedures in database management.
• Ability to perform complex professional work and exercise independent judgment.
• Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining databases.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with database tuning and optimization.
• Familiarity with backup and recovery procedures.
