About the position

The Database Analyst position within the Department of Accounting and General Services (DAGS) in Oahu, Hawaii, involves performing a full range of database administration and analysis work. This role is critical for designing, implementing, and maintaining database applications, ensuring data integrity, and optimizing database performance. The position offers opportunities for both journeyworker and senior specialist levels, requiring independent judgment and advanced technical skills to manage complex database projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design database applications based on specifications provided by higher-level staff.
  • Test, correct, monitor, and update developed applications.
  • Evaluate database performance and tune databases as needed.
  • Set up backup and recovery procedures for databases.
  • Control access to data in physical database designs for privacy and security.
  • Redesign databases as business needs change (Senior level).
  • Serve as a project or team leader for complex projects (Senior level).
  • Provide expert advisory and technical guidance in database management (Senior level).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 2 to 4 years of professional Information Technology (IT) work experience in Database Administration/Analysis.
  • Basic understanding of competencies such as Customer Focus, Initiative, and Problem Solving.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with database management systems implementation.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, policies, and regulations in database management.
