About the position

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an Information Technology Client Support Tech I-ENT to provide IT client support and services to UAB administrators, faculty, staff, and students. This role involves incident resolution and request fulfillment of moderate to complex nature, ensuring timely and accurate support. The technician will interact with various IT services to restore functionality, document service requests, and maintain service-level agreements (SLAs). Weekend work may be required as determined by management.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to service requests for supported IT clients and systems, providing remote and onsite service as needed.
  • Researches and resolves incidents for supported IT clients, escalating as necessary while maintaining ownership of the incident.
  • Supports classroom and audiovisual needs through remote or in-person resolution, including classroom inspections for high priority needs.
  • Maintains accurate information and data regarding incident and request responses in the IT service management (ITSM) tool.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related field required; work experience may substitute for education requirement.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to quickly learn and support new systems or processes in a dynamic environment.
  • Customer service skills with effective written and verbal communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a help-desk environment, particularly focused on remote resolution.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills with hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Knowledge of endpoint management tools such as SCCM/JAMF.
  • Familiarity with network printer mapping and AD group management tools.
  • Basic knowledge of audiovisual (AV) equipment and usage.
