About the position

The Information Technology (Cyber Security) Adjunct position at Tidewater Community College involves teaching courses in Cyber Security to students with diverse academic backgrounds. The adjunct faculty member is responsible for creating an engaging learning environment, delivering instruction, and providing feedback to promote student success. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, as classes may be held during the day, evening, or weekend, and includes responsibilities for student engagement and assessment.

Responsibilities

• Create a learning environment that facilitates students' acquisition of knowledge and skills in Cyber Security.
• Align course activities with student learning outcomes and employ active learning strategies to foster student engagement.
• Deliver instruction in support of stated learning outcomes and adhere to college policies for student surveys of instruction.
• Conduct meaningful assessments of student learning and analyze previous semester evaluations to implement action plans as necessary.
• Hold at least one office hour per week for each credit course assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in the teaching field or an associate's degree with demonstrated competency in the teaching field.
• Minimum of two years of work experience in Cyber Security.
• Ability to demonstrate the use of relevant technology and learning management systems for teaching and assessment.
• Commitment to student engagement in the online teaching environment with consistent communication and support.
• Effective communication skills in an electronic format.
• Certifications in Cyber Security.

Nice-to-haves

• Teaching experience at the college level.
• Two years or more of training/teaching experience.
• Knowledge of CANVAS or other learning management systems.
• Experience with proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
• Sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization utilizing significant information and instructional technology resources.
