About the position

The Information Technology Mainframe Operator is responsible for managing and overseeing the operation of IBM mainframe systems under the direction of an IT Systems Operations Supervisor. This role involves starting and stopping system tasks, monitoring system consoles, and ensuring the health and normal operation of the systems. The operator will also handle major subsystems and perform orderly shutdowns and startups as required, collaborating with system programmers and production control analysts to ensure production workloads are completed properly.

Responsibilities

• Start and stop system tasks on IBM mainframe systems.
• Monitor system consoles for unusual conditions.
• Work with system programming and production control staff to ensure system health.
• Perform orderly shutdown and startup of the system and its workloads.
• Communicate with system programmers and production control analysts regarding system operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field or equivalent experience in mainframe operations.
• 5 years of experience as a mainframe operator.
• 2 years of experience operating and administering IBM System p-Series/z-Series platform.
• 1 year of experience in automation of system monitoring and maintenance procedures.
