About the position

The City of Ventura is seeking a skilled Information Technology Project Management Professional to manage the post-implementation and ongoing support of the Workday Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform. This role focuses on overseeing the maintenance, governance, and continuous improvement of the ERP project while providing project management leadership for additional IT initiatives. This temporary position is expected to extend for three years or more, offering an opportunity to contribute to a significant technological transformation within the city.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets; assign tasks and responsibilities to team members; monitor project progress and make necessary adjustments; ensure adherence to project scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Communicate project progress and updates to stakeholders; manage expectations and resolve conflicts; build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks throughout the project lifecycle; develop contingency plans to address unforeseen challenges.
  • Lead organizational change associated with Workday implementation efforts; provide support to employees during the transition process.
  • Oversee the governance framework for ERP release management and configuration updates, ensuring compliance with data management, security, and established City policies.

Requirements

  • Strong project management skills, including experience with agile or waterfall methodologies.
  • Knowledge of ERP modules, such as HCM, Financials, and Payroll; Workday specific experience is a plus.
  • Technical proficiency in IT systems and processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate project teams.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience with data migration and integration.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in project management, information systems, computer science, business system analysis, or a related field and four years of progressively responsible information technology project management experience, including two years of responsibility and experience at leading projects and supervising staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Public agency project management experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with complex stakeholder environments and enterprise-wide services is a plus.
  • Possession of a valid class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is highly desirable.
