About the position

The Information Technology Security Officer at the U.S. District Court of Western New York is responsible for managing and enhancing the information technology security policies and practices across all court units. This role involves providing expert advice on IT security, overseeing security implementations, and ensuring compliance with mandated security standards. The officer will also lead initiatives to improve the court's IT security posture and support the technical needs of the court's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Review, evaluate, and make recommendations on courts' technology security programs.
  • Provide technical advisory services for secure design, implementation, maintenance, or modification of IT systems and networks.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining local court unit security policies and guidance.
  • Provide security analysis of IT activities to ensure appropriate security measures are enforced.
  • Oversee the implementation of security on information systems and manage security documentation.
  • Serve as a liaison with court stakeholders to integrate security into the system development lifecycle.
  • Create methodologies, templates, guidelines, and procedures for IT security services.
  • Coordinate the court's response to SOC and virus alerts and handle remediation.
  • Monitor and respond to Help Desk activity, troubleshoot and repair system issues.
  • Maintain and support the court's LAN, WAN, WiFi, and VLAN technology.

Requirements

  • At least two years of professional IT security experience.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in an IT or IT-related major from an accredited institution.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Management (CISM), CompTIA Security+, or similar certification is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of network management and security, network traffic analysis, computer hardware and software, and data communications.
  • Understanding of applicable programming languages such as Python, Java, PHP, and SQL.
  • Ability to identify and analyze security risks and implement resolutions.
  • Knowledge of anti-virus, anti-malware, application control, web threat protection, and endpoint security controls.
  • Understanding of incident response and the ability to implement a plan and procedures.
  • Strong skill in interpersonal communications and project management.

  • Experience with incident response planning and execution.
  • Familiarity with security best practices and frameworks.
