About the position

The Information Technology Specialist 2 Programming (NY HELPs) position is a full-time role within the Dedicated Support/Sector D of the Office of Information Technology Services. The candidate will perform a full range of activities including business application analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance in support of the Department of Public Service. The position is contingent permanent and falls under the competitive class jurisdictional category.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with users to gather business requirements and prepare design specifications.
  • Develop web applications based on design specifications using ASP.NET, VB.NET, and C#.
  • Write code in markup languages such as HTML, JavaScript, and jQuery.
  • Develop and maintain API services for agency interfaces.
  • Write PL/SQL and T-SQL queries, views, and stored procedures in Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Analyze end user requests and create application and ad-hoc reports using SSRS.
  • Debug and troubleshoot solutions for users and systems.
  • Test written code against business and technical requirements.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science.
  • A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology.
  • 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology.
  • Two years of professional experience in information technology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ASP.NET, VB.NET, C#, HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, PL/SQL, and T-SQL.
  • Experience in developing web applications and API services.
