About the position

The Information Technology Specialist (Systems Administration) will serve in the Software Management Branch of NAVOCEANO Bay St. Louis, focusing on monitoring and ensuring system performance, accessibility, integrity, efficiency, and operational availability. The role involves analyzing system resources, ensuring cybersecurity compliance, and providing technical expertise in system administration tasks, particularly on Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and ensure system performance, accessibility, integrity, efficiency, and operational availability.
  • Analyze system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations for the acquisition of licensed COTS software.
  • Ensure adherence to standards and guidelines required to maintain cybersecurity compliance of the RDBMS systems.
  • Perform as a technical expert for development and maintenance of scripts on Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems for data file transfers.
  • Analyze users and software application needs to define and document middleware requirements.
  • Evaluate contractor deliverables from a technical perspective validating requirements and procedures.
  • Maintain cybersecurity compliance of all supported environments according to DoD and DON guidelines.
  • Develop and document solutions or Courses of Action (COAs) for issues or requirements.
  • Provide formal technical presentations at the command level and prepare detailed documents for NAVOCEANO and other high-level activities.
  • Develop quality solutions and recommend techniques to improve organizational efficiencies.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
  • Experience with system and software administration tasks such as installing, patching, configuring, integrating, and monitoring web servers and RDBMS on Linux or Windows operating systems.
  • Experience maintaining cybersecurity compliance of software according to organizational guidelines.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing compliance strategies for information assurance vulnerabilities (IAVs).
  • Experience performing software administration duties required to maintain cybersecurity compliance of ESRI ArcGIS products and database systems.
