About the position

The Information Technology Technician position at the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools is a full-time role that serves as the first point of contact for end-user issues and requests. Under the direction of the Information Technology Support Supervisor, the technician will engage in a variety of technical tasks related to the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of end-user computing technologies. This role is critical in ensuring that the technology needs of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools and associated school districts are met efficiently and effectively. As a tier one support technician, the individual will gather information, troubleshoot, and attempt to resolve issues for desktop support before escalating to higher tiers of support. Responsibilities include backing up and restoring user data, configuring anti-malware programs, and resolving issues related to email and network configurations. The technician will also deploy and maintain various end-user technologies, including printers, computers, tablets, and VOIP telephone systems. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with other team members to ensure smooth operations. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, operating various office equipment, and serving as a liaison between the County Superintendent and other stakeholders. The position demands strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and a commitment to professional development. The technician will participate in meetings and training sessions to stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first responder for end-user issues and requests.
  • Gather information, troubleshoot, and attempt to resolve desktop support issues before escalating to higher tiers.
  • Assist tier two and three team members with tasks and projects as needed.
  • Backup and restore user data and settings as necessary.
  • Configure anti-malware programs and remediate malware infections.
  • Configure, modify, and fix issues related to email and network configurations.
  • Deploy, customize, and maintain end-user technologies including printers, computers, and VOIP systems.
  • Install software and test applications to ensure proper operation.
  • Perform tasks related to the creation, modification, and deletion of user accounts and Exchange mailboxes.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide technical information regarding standards and practices.
  • Exhibit professionally appropriate interpersonal skills including tact, patience, and flexibility.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and operate a variety of office equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of computer hardware and software preferred.
  • Valid California driver's license and automobile liability insurance required.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and methods involved in LAN systems and related equipment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Mac OS and Windows operating systems.
  • Knowledge of VOIP telephone systems and configurations.
  • Familiarity with online applications and capabilities of assigned computer systems.
