About the position

The Information Technology Technician position with the Pennsylvania State Police is designed for detail-oriented professionals who thrive in a fast-paced IT environment. This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and ensuring the operability of troop communications equipment, including telephones and radios. The technician will also provide training and guidance to personnel, manage inventory control, and maintain service records for telecommunications and IT equipment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve various IT hardware and software issues.
• Assist users in obtaining higher-level technical assistance as necessary.
• Troubleshoot operability problems with landline and cellular telephones and portable/handheld or mobile radios.
• Examine problems, identify likely causes, and resolve or refer to centralized technical staff.
• Provide training and guidance to troop personnel in the use of telecommunications/IT hardware and software.
• Perform scheduled checks and maintenance of equipment at troop stations.
• Maintain service and inventory control records for telecommunications/IT equipment.

Requirements

• One year of experience as an IT Help Desk Technician or equivalent.
• Two years of experience providing IT support services involving hardware and software installation, operation, and maintenance.
• Completion of a one-year apprenticeship in the IT technical support field and one year of IT support experience.
• An associate degree in an IT field or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Ability to obtain an active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification within the probationary period.

Nice-to-haves
