About the position

The Information Technology Telecommunications Technician position at Miami-Dade County involves the repair, troubleshooting, testing, installation, and maintenance of various telecommunications equipment. This role is essential for ensuring the functionality of voice, data, and wireless communication systems within the county's infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on telecommunications equipment including desktop and laptop computers, tablets, printers, and smartphones.
  • Troubleshoot Local Area Network (LAN) issues and perform diagnostics on network connectivity.
  • Install and maintain in-house plant cabling, including copper and fiber optics.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot Wide Area Network (WAN) connection issues.
  • Utilize test equipment such as Fluke LAN/WAN meters and VOIP systems for diagnostics.
  • Perform security patches on maintained images of devices.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related field.
  • Three years of experience in the repair, troubleshooting, testing, installation, and maintenance of voice, data, and wireless communication equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft software suite (Windows 10 - 11).
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP protocol and EIA/TIA 568 cable standards.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, blueprints, and floor plans.
  • Experience with VOIP systems and their network protocols.
  • Skills in rapid restoration of laptop and desktop computers through imaging.
