About the position

The Lead or Senior Infrared, Optical and Opto-Mechanical Sensor Products Engineer at Boeing will oversee a team focused on the development of advanced sensor products for mission systems. This role involves leading engineering efforts in the design and implementation of Electro-Optics Infrared (EO/IR) sensors, ensuring alignment with the chief architect's vision and driving innovation in aerospace technology. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to define product objectives and execute programs effectively, with a strong emphasis on agile methodologies and system thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineers and analysts in the development of sensor products aligned with the chief architect's vision.
  • Drive architecture trades, design, analysis, requirements definition, and performance modeling for optical systems.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and engineering teams to define technology and product portfolio development objectives.
  • Develop transition plans for low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) products from the science and technology community.
  • Create and lead modeling, definition, and engineering products through program execution efforts.
  • Maintain relationships with program leaders, stakeholders, and suppliers to provide input on technical approaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 7+ years of experience with the design of mission systems, sensors, or sensing systems.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience.
  • Experience with optical design.
  • Experience working on opto-mechanical and/or electromechanical designs.

Nice-to-haves

  • 12+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with developmental space and/or airborne systems.
  • Experience with systems design, integration, and test including tools FRED and Zemax.
  • Experience performing modeling and/or simulation of Electro-Optical and Infrared systems with a technical computing language, such as Matlab or Mathematica.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, development, and/or verification of signal and image collection systems.
