About the position

The Infrastructure Engineer Hardware position in Aurora, Colorado, is a contract role focused on supporting the program platform's overarching design, particularly in operating systems and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) stacks. The role requires expertise in operating systems, server hardware, and the configuration of private cloud environments using tools such as VMware or Amazon Web Services. The Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for supporting the hardware infrastructure, which includes compute servers, storage, and networks that form the backbone of a critical national asset's operational deployment. This position involves communicating any risks or issues related to system performance, availability, or security. Additionally, the engineers will be process-oriented, collaborating with the team on fixes while ensuring that all changes adhere to the project's change management processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both Windows and Linux system administration, along with experience in COTS product installation for hardware and software. Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, Ruby, or bash is essential, as is familiarity with code repository systems like ClearCase or Bit Bucket. The role also requires experience in the architecture and design of on-premises COTS infrastructure, with a focus on ensuring that system requirements align with compute capabilities. Candidates should be prepared to work in a dynamic environment that emphasizes collaboration and adherence to established processes.

Responsibilities

  • Support the program platform's overarching design in operating systems and COTS stacks.
  • Configure private cloud environments using VMware or Amazon Web Services.
  • Manage and support hardware infrastructure including compute servers, storage, and networks.
  • Communicate risks or issues related to system performance, availability, or security.
  • Collaborate with the team on fixes while ensuring adherence to change management processes.

Requirements

  • Active SECRET clearance required.
  • Typically requires a BS/BA Degree in STEM fields such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or Physics and 2+ years of related work experience.
  • Experience with Windows and/or Linux System Administration.
  • Experience in COTS product installation for hardware and software products.
  • Experience with software installation, configuration, and O/S builds.
  • Scripting skills in languages such as PowerShell, Python, Ruby, or bash.
  • Experience with code repository systems like ClearCase or Bit Bucket.
  • Experience with the architecture and design of on-premises COTS infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Change Management processes and version control of software applications.
  • Experience with networks, storage, and virtualization (VMware).
  • Experience with MS Visio for documentation.
  • Current existing Security Plus Certification.
  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies such as scrum or SAFe.
  • Proficiency in matching system requirements to compute capabilities.
  • Experience in DevOps/DevSecOps system development.
  • Experience in designing private cloud environments, particularly for compute servers.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, or SaltStack.

  • Experience with implementing DISA STIGs.
