The Infrastructure Engineer (network automation) at Discover plays a crucial role in delivering engineering solutions throughout the product lifecycle. The engineer actively manages risks and customer-impacting issues, ensuring product commitments are met through effective communication and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Achieves product commitments and influences others through informal leadership and communication skills.
• Uses automation, system tools, open-source solutions, and security-first principles in daily work.
• Contributes to team agile ceremonies, leads demos and presentations, and helps new engineers learn established norms.
• Initiates high-level solution design approaches and guides the team to achieve key software delivery capabilities using automation.
• Participates in internal speaking and advocacy events.
• Supports research activities to adopt new technology solutions for developing new capabilities.
• Continues professional education and creates opportunities for core product teams to learn engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, Information Technology, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, or related fields.
• Technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale for internal applicants.

Nice-to-haves

• 6+ years' experience in large enterprise systems engineering or related experience.
• Experience with Python, Ansible Playbook/YAML, JSON.
• Knowledge of LAN, WAN, Load Balancing, DNS, Packet Tracing, GitHub, Ansible Automation Platform/AWX, API, Terraform, AWS/OCP, Service Now, postman/curl, IDE tools like VS code, and MKDocs.
