About the position

Dewberry is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer/Site Civil Engineer IV to join their Gainesville, VA office. This full-time position involves providing comprehensive engineering services for energy and commercial infrastructure clients, focusing on natural gas distribution and transmission systems. The role requires expertise in civil design and land development, overseeing projects from concept to completion, including design work, plan processing, and construction phase services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project engineering and design on projects.
  • Prepare engineering plans, profiles, specifications, equipment/bill of materials, calculations, reports, and perform quality control review.
  • Prepare bid and construction packages.
  • Prepare RFI responses and review shop drawings.
  • Work with other engineering and planning disciplines for project permitting and easement acquisitions.
  • Prepare routing studies and plans for gas distribution and transmission pipeline projects.
  • Prepare and complete quality management system checklists, document management and project audits.
  • Represent Dewberry and projects with city, county, state and federal agencies.
  • Project work will span regulated gas utility projects, private commercial projects, advance of pavement projects, substation site design, permitting, and site inspections.
  • Coordinates design review process and permitting through outside agencies and assistance with client coordination.
  • Responsible for preparation and coordination of all Land Development design aspects.
  • Works closely with Senior Project Manager and agency staff.
  • Specific work may include, but is not limited to, client communication, budget oversight and responsibility, construction document (plan and specifications) and technical reports preparation and/or oversight; engineering analyses, cost estimates and quality control/quality assurance in order to deliver a quality design product.
  • Assists with scope and fee determinations for proposed engineering services.
  • Assists with preparation of weekly schedules and task coordination.
  • Assists with training/mentoring of staff.
  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or equivalent technical degree.
  • Registration as a professional engineer in VA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of engineering work experience in the natural gas or liquid pipeline industry, and/or site plan design preferred.
  • Experience at pipeline operating company or at an engineering consulting firm is preferred.
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and staff members.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the regulated gas industry and energy services.
  • Unquestioned business and personal integrity.
  • Experience in NOVA preferred.
