About the position

The Heavy Civil Estimator plays a crucial role in the preparation of estimates for construction projects, focusing on heavy civil works. This position involves coordinating and participating in the estimation process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in project costing, and identifying potential issues in design and constructability. The estimator will work closely with various stakeholders to compile bid packages and analyze existing site conditions to deliver comprehensive estimates that drive project success.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of complete quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate, and studies for all items incorporated in the assigned scope.
• Perform constructability analysis through the identification of design and constructability issues.
• Compile bid packages for complicated scopes that accurately convey desired bid scope and requirements to trades.
• Develop value analysis by defining alternatives to the proposed scope that are more cost efficient.
• Prepare detailed estimate of entire scope of all trades, systems, and/or overall project cost.
• Prepare detailed estimate for all self-perform heavy civil trades including above ground and below ground Structural Concrete, Drainage Pumping Systems, Sewer Pumping and Treatment system, Steel, Concrete and Timber Piling installation as well as Bridge construction.
• Analyze existing site conditions and all contract documents to determine any required scope that is not indicated.
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor proposals relative to their scope of work.
• Determine if scope is covered and manage risk of scope gaps.
• Create cost efficiencies through ongoing estimating process improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, or related field.
• 10+ years of Heavy Civil construction experience.
• Hands-on Field Experience preferred.
• Proficiency with software, including MS Office Suite, project management software, bid management software, and scheduling software (P6 or MS Project).
• Ability to implement new technologies to benefit the projects.
