As a Manufacturing Engineer - Injection Molding at General Motors, you will play a crucial role in the production process by utilizing your strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within a cohesive team in a fast-paced, high-volume, union-represented environment. Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with mold designers and mold makers to address and resolve any injection molding issues that arise. This collaboration will extend to engaging with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to seek assistance in problem-solving and to obtain design guidance when necessary. In addition to troubleshooting and resolving issues, you will apply your program management skills to lead various projects. This includes overseeing upgrades and improvements from the initial design phase through to debugging and production release. Regular updates to management regarding the status of critical and high-priority projects will be a key part of your role, and you will be expected to escalate any issues that require additional support to ensure timely project execution. Your responsibilities will also include specifying and procuring new injection mold equipment primarily for nylon resins, which encompasses presses, auxiliary controllers, pick ‘n place systems, material feed systems, process controllers, chillers, and dryers. You will lead projects aimed at retrofitting and repurposing existing injection mold equipment, support maintenance troubleshooting for current equipment or process problems, and continuously develop or improve injection mold processes to achieve high-quality parts with the desired throughput. A solid understanding of molding best practices will be essential in this role.
