About the position

The Ink Technician position is responsible for providing correctly mixed inks for use on wide-web flexographic printing presses, ensuring the production of quality flexible packaging materials in a timely manner. This role involves adhering to safety and quality assurance procedures, supporting press operators, and maintaining equipment. The technician will also train and assist press room associates in safe ink handling and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Check all tools and equipment at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure good housekeeping is maintained.
  • Complete preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned and assist Maintenance with repairs.
  • Formulate new colors in the system using the fewest base colors for simplicity and consistency.
  • Support press operators during set-up to expedite matching target colors and improve efficiency.
  • Work proactively with the press schedule to avoid potential press problems involving ink.
  • Drive compliance with Quality Control procedures to ensure proper ink mixing and consistency throughout production runs.
  • Train and assist Press Room Associates in proper and safe ink and solvent handling.
  • Remove hazardous waste from the press room and ensure proper labeling and processing of returned ink.
  • Conduct monthly ink inventory and maintain accurate records of inks ordered and received.
  • Generate improvement ideas and embrace improvement projects to enhance business operations.

Requirements

  • Detail orientation for completing paperwork and information system inputs accurately.
  • Previous ink mixing and toning experience is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of additive and subtractive color and Colorimetric Fundamentals is strongly preferred.
  • Job experience in an industrial production environment with related safety training is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions and accept verbal direction.
  • Capable of performing mathematical calculations and using tape measures, test equipment, computers, and micrometers.
  • Flexibility in work assignments and priorities to address dynamic customer needs.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with experience in effective teams and continuous improvement methods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GMP and food safety standards.
  • Knowledge of color matching techniques and equipment.
