About the position

The Inpatient Clinical Dietitian PRN position at Intermountain Medical Center is designed to facilitate the nutrition care process, ensuring that patients receive optimal medical nutrition therapy. This role is critical in assessing and diagnosing nutritional needs, implementing appropriate interventions, and monitoring patient outcomes. The dietitian will work closely with healthcare providers to communicate nutrition expertise and collaborate with other dietitians as necessary. This position requires a commitment to continuous improvement and the ability to precept students, contributing to the educational environment of the department. The dietitian will be responsible for completing and documenting nutrition assessments and diagnoses, identifying and implementing quality nutrition education tailored to the needs and culture of patients. They will also monitor and evaluate individual nutrition outcomes related to established goals and interventions. The role is part-time, requiring availability for 2-3 shifts per week, with shifts scheduled from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, including rotating weekends and holidays. This is an onsite position with no remote work or on-call requirements. Candidates must be prepared to meet specific certification requirements, including passing the Registered Dietitian (RD) exam within four months of hire if not already registered, and obtaining state certification within six months. The position emphasizes the importance of effective communication, organizational skills, and the ability to utilize resources efficiently in practice.

Responsibilities

  • Completes and documents nutrition assessment.
  • Completes and documents nutrition diagnosis.
  • Identifies and implements appropriate nutrition interventions including quality nutrition education based on customer needs, expectations, and culture.
  • Monitors and evaluates individual nutrition outcomes related to nutrition diagnosis, goals, and interventions.
  • Communicates nutrition expertise with all appropriate healthcare providers.
  • Uses resources effectively and efficiently in practice.
  • Precepts students.
  • Participates in department continuous improvement projects.
  • Collaborates with other dietitians as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in dietetics, nutrition, or nutrition related field from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of an approved Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) program.
  • Registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or registration eligible.
  • Certified Dietitian in state of practice or willing to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Food handler's permit (as required by facility).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers (as required by facility).
  • Demonstrated self-starter, detail-oriented, and effective organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year experience as a registered dietitian.
