About the position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Coding Specialist to join our medical office team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding medical diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and maintaining the integrity of medical records. This role is essential in supporting the billing process and facilitating efficient medical collections.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze patient medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10 and ICD-9 codes for diagnoses and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate coding in accordance with established guidelines and regulations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in documentation that may affect coding accuracy.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding systems, and billing practices.
  • Assist in the management of medical records to ensure completeness and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Support the medical billing process by providing necessary codes for claims submission.
  • Participate in regular audits to ensure coding accuracy and adherence to quality standards.
  • Stay informed about changes in coding regulations and updates to DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) classifications.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a medical office setting with a strong understanding of medical billing and coding practices.
  • Proficiency in ICD-10, ICD-9, DRG, and other relevant coding systems is essential.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and the ability to interpret clinical documentation effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills to ensure accurate coding.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with medical collections is preferred but not required.
  • Certification in Medical Coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is a plus but not mandatory.
