The Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient 3 position at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, in collaboration with Washington University, is designed for certified technicians who are eager to advance their careers in an oncology environment. This role involves working closely with oncology and infusion teams to prepare medications specifically for oncology patients. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in IV, sterile, and non-sterile compounding, as these skills are preferred for this position. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. In this role, the Pharmacy Technician will operate under the direct supervision of a staff pharmacist and will be responsible for providing cross-coverage for multiple technician competencies or responsibilities within a designated focus area. This position serves as a valuable resource within the department, answering questions and assisting in resolving complex issues that may arise. Key responsibilities include preparing medication orders, assisting in the dispensing and transportation of medications, conducting complex sterile and non-sterile compounding, managing inventory, training new staff, utilizing various automated and electronic systems, and maintaining the necessary documentation and records to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards. The technician will also be expected to maintain regulatory cleanliness compliance and support various inventory activities, including storage, ordering, rotating, and ensuring cleanliness of medications. The role requires the technician to assume primary responsibility for specific tasks or areas of specialty, which may include training, system maintenance, workflow management, and process improvement. Additionally, the technician will pursue proficiency in preparing complex sterile compounds and seek out opportunities for advanced skills and additional responsibilities. This position is integral to the pharmacy team and contributes significantly to the overall patient care experience.
