The Certified Pharmacy Technician II provides essential support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, ensuring that all processes adhere to the highest standards of safety and efficacy. This role is critical in maintaining the flow of medication within the inpatient pharmacy, contributing to patient care and safety. As a Certified Pharmacy Technician II, you will be responsible for compounding and preparing various types of medications, including sterile products, oral medications, topical treatments, and controlled substances. You will also be involved in high-risk medication processes as defined by the entity and authorized by a physician. Your duties will include delivering and exchanging medications to the respective patient areas, documenting pharmaceutical activities, and ensuring the accuracy of data through both automated and paper systems. In addition to medication preparation and delivery, you will respond to customer requests for pharmacy services, operate automated dispensing technology, and manage inventory by ordering, receiving, restocking, and rotating medications. You will also play a role in training new employees, contributing to process improvement projects, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, including inspections of medication storage areas and controlled substance inventories. This position requires a commitment to quality and safety in all aspects of pharmacy operations.

Responsibilities

  • Compounds and/or prepares medications including sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc. under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
  • Delivers exchanges medications to the respective patient area and returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
  • Documents pharmaceutical activities including patient billing for medications and equipment, quality control requirements, etc. using automated and paper systems.
  • Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services such as medication delivery, drug information, etc.
  • Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients, according to pharmacist and physician orders.
  • Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management.
  • Assists with training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions.
  • Contributes to process improvement projects.
  • Completes regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797 and other regulatory documentation as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
  • CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
  • Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.

Nice-to-haves
